WHAT IS ZYOPTIX
The very latest development in laser eye treatement from Bausch and Lomb is called Zyoptix, a system that takes LASIK to a new frontier. It is the fully integrated personalized correction system by Baush & Lomb that helps patients achieve better quality of vision. Through wavefront-guided customised ablation, this latest advancement in refractive surgery enables the treatment to be personalised to individual patient.Higher order aberration,ie irregularities of the eye can be diagnosed with the aberrometer/machine and the treatment will then be calculated using an advanced software.

Personalised Vision Treatemants
Zyoptix means that laser eye treatment is now unique to each eye. With Zyoptix, treatement is designed specifically to treat your individual vision erors.

Zyoptix could improve the quality of of your vision. Available clinical data with us significantly more Zyoptix patients had less problems with night driving than patients undergoing treatement with LASIK.

Each Zyoptix assessment involves an extra diagnostic (screening) process to let the sergeon understand your vision better and select the most suitable treatmentfor you.

In the Zyoptix system the latest, most advanced technology is used to detect and treat very small vision erors.

The Zyoptix system has many advanced built-in safety features that help to optimise the success of your treatment.

Zyoptix, like standard laser treatement, is fast and virtually painless.

Why Lasik
Over the past few years, laser eye treatment has been seen to make an enormous difference to people with near-sight, far-sight and astigmatism. It's a difference that has changed their quality of life as well as their quality of vision.

For many people, laser treatment can mean new freedom -

  • freedom to change the way the world sees you
  • freedom from the time-consuming, day-to-day hassle of glasses or contact lenses
  • freedom to play sports without the inconvenience of glasses or contact lenses
  • freedom to go on holiday and to work without worrying about your eyesight

freedom to wake up during the night and see clearly
The result is that more and more people, including many celebrities, are choosing to undergo this highly sophisticated and very successful procedure. Because there is an increasing number of clinics offering a variety of methods to correct your vision, it helps if you have some understanding of all the options, before you make a decision.
This website is designed to provide you with information on Zyoptix a new and advanced laser eye treatment at THIND EYE HOSPITAL, which we hope will help you to make an informed choice.

History
Zyoptix has been developed from LASIK to provide personalised vision correction and many surgeons believe that this is the future in laser eye surgery.

What ZYOPTIX can Correct?
Explaining the differences between the normal eye and vision errors such as myopia will help you to understand what laser eye treatment and Zyoptix are designed to do.
Your vision can be either normal, myopia (near or short sighted), hyperopic (for sighted) or astigmatic ( complex).Obviously, normal eyes do not need any correction except at middle age (40 - 50), when they become presbyopic (old age vision) and 'reading glasses' are needed to see small close up objects. Laser eye surgery can be applied to correct near sight, for sight and astigmatism.
The eye is nature's camera. The light that comes into the eye passes through the curved surfaces of the cornea and lens, which bends the light to focus on the retina.
The curvature of the cornea is very important,. Since it has a major influence on your type of vision and offers and ideal surface to correct vision. Laser eye treatment works by changing the shape of the cornea to correct or re-align the focus.

MYPOIA/NEAR (short) - sight :
This is a very common vision problem and is often inherited. Myopia people can see very close-up, but distant images are blurred. This is caused by the curve of the cornea being too 'steep' or because eyeball is too long. Laser surgery correct myopia by flattening the curve of the cornea pushing the focal point back on to the retina.
Astigmatism :
Astigmatism is very common. The cornea is shaped more like a rugby ball than the normal round cornea and 2 different curvatures (one rounder than the other) this simply means that, instead of one curvature (with standard short or near-sight), there are 2 curvatures that need to be corrected, at the same time and during the same treatment, to make sure that there is only one focal point falling on the retina.

What laser eye treatment does NOT correct :
Presbyopia : In middle age, everyone's eyes - whether normal, myopic or anything else, become presbyopic. This means that in addition to your distance correction (if you have one) you will need glasses for close-up activities.
Neither standard LASIK nor Zyoptix can correct presbyopia. However, people who have presbyopia will benefit from having their distance vision corrected, and will thus only need glasses for close-up activities.

Choosing the right Treatment :-
Your eye and vision are like your fingerprint - truly distinctive and personal. It is distinctive because light is scattered unevenly to form a pattern that is unique to your eye and because your cornea has a unique shape. Each Zyoptix assessment involves an extra diagnostic (screening) process extensive enough to let the surgeon see every individual patient's unique optical characteristics.
With a Zyoptix assessment, We at Thind Eye Hospital have an even broader base of information on which to decide whether your eyes are suitable for treatment, and to plan the right treatment for you.

How Zyoptix works
Zyoptix software combines data from two different types of d iagnostic equipment, then programmes the laser with your unique treatment, based on this data. Data is collected to assess the structure of your cornea (called topography). Data is also collected from a measurement of your optical system using the advanced wavefront technology - a measurement not normally taken with Standard Lasik treatments.
The next sections will explain how the topographer and wavefront work together to ensure the most thorough screening and treatment programme.

The wavefront factor: measuring your vision :-
Wavefront was first developed by astrophysicists and has now been applied to Zyoptix. It provides the most technologically advanced measurement not just of standard visual but also of scattered light errors known as 'aberrations'.
Wavefront technology or aberrometry is based on the principle that if an eye had no imperfections at all, light passed through it would not scatter. But because no eye is perfect, light scatters to form distinct patterns - called a wavefront. Wavefront technology measures your personal/individual patterns and thus allows the surgeon to plan a treatment that exactly matches individual vision errors.
Your wavefront will be measured by the market-leading aberrometer, the Zywave™ Aberrometer from Bausch & Lomb. The Zywave aberrometer measures the eye from the centre to the outer edges (the periphery) of the pupil. This is especially important, because at night your pupils open up and more light is scattered in the periphery of the pupils.
Your surgeon needs to know as much about your night-time as your
day-time vision.

Zyoptix topography: assessing your corneal surface :-
While it is important that your surgeon measures your optical system, it is equally important to know the shape of your cornea. This screening test enables the surgeon to assess the general health and thickness of your cornea and so to determine if you are suitable for laser eye treatment.
The Zyoptix system collects this information from over 9,000 points across the cornea, using Bausch & Lomb's Orbscan™ IIz (anterior segment analysis system) market-leading topographer.
